Many individuals now prefer messaging on WhatsApp over traditional calls. Beyond messages and calls, the platform offers options for sharing photos, videos, and documents. When changing mobile numbers, users often worry about losing their old chats and group data.
If you’re switching numbers, there’s no need for concern. WhatsApp’s Change Number feature simplifies the process. This feature allows you to continue using your old account with your new number, eliminating the need to create a new account and ensuring that all your chats and group data remain secure.
Steps to Change Your WhatsApp Number:
1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
2. Go to Settings. On Android, tap the three dots in the top right corner to find Settings.
3. On iPhones, the Settings option is located at the bottom right.
4. Click on the Account section. Here, you’ll find the Change Number option. Tap this option.
5. Click Next. Enter your old number first, followed by your new number. Then, click Next again. You’ll receive an OTP on your new number. Enter the OTP to successfully change your WhatsApp number.
Things to Keep in Mind Before Changing Numbers:
Verify that you can receive SMS or calls on your new number to enable OTP verification. You should also have access to your old number. Remember that you cannot change your number through WhatsApp Web or the Desktop App; a smartphone is necessary.
Why This Feature is Important:
This WhatsApp feature is valuable because it prevents the deletion of your old account. Your old account simply starts working with your new number. Additionally, your contacts are notified that you have changed your number.
