India Scrutinises Username Features Across Messaging Apps

According to senior IT officials, the government is currently reviewing the replies from Telegram, WhatsApp and Signal regarding their username capabilities. The review focuses on how each platform plans to prevent fraud, phishing, digital arrests and impersonation without a phone number. IT Secretary S. Krishnan said the ministry expects to receive WhatsApp’s final answer by Thursday and will await all responses before taking any regulatory action.
