Industry Leaders Call for Clear Guidelines Ahead of Labour Code Rollout

Representatives from the PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry stressed that while the new labour codes promise a simplified regulatory environment, many sectors still require detailed clarification before full implementation.

The chamber’s CEO noted that for India to claim global leadership in manufacturing and services, it must ensure that the revised statutes are practical for MSMEs, which form the backbone of the economy. Excessive reliance on legal counsel should be avoided; instead, businesses need straightforward, easily interpretable rules.

Committee chairperson Aashish Wig echoed this sentiment, urging the government to grant adequate preparation time for industries to adapt to the new requirements. He pointed out that certain provisions, such as floor‑wage calculations and compliance timelines, remain ambiguous and could hinder smooth adoption.

Stakeholders across the board are monitoring the rollout closely, expecting that a balanced approach—combining robust social protection with realistic compliance demands—will drive both worker welfare and economic growth.
