Meta Introduces New Protocol After Modi’s Post Removal, Says Indian Government

Following the brief blockage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video on July 23, Meta announced the rollout of a new monitoring protocol that began on July 28. The Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology confirmed the update, noting that it adds extra oversight for content published by the prime minister and other high‑profile accounts.

S. Krishnan explained that the protocol is designed to strengthen safeguards against inadvertent restrictions and to improve coordination between Meta’s technical teams and the Indian authorities. The ministry highlighted that the move aims to protect the flow of official communications while maintaining platform integrity.
