Mid‑Cap and Small‑Cap Indexes Lead Gains as Nifty Hits 24,250

On Wednesday, the Indian equity market showed a pronounced rally after a prior decline. The benchmark Sensex rose 889 points to 77,654.60 and the Nifty 50 climbed 265 points, landing at 24,250.20.

Both the Nifty Mid‑Cap 100 and Small‑Cap 100 outperformed the front‑line indices, posting gains of 0.82% and 1.48% respectively. The rally was underpinned by heavy buying in information‑technology stocks, which recorded the strongest relative increase.

Sectoral performance was broadly positive. Apart from real estate, all sector indices closed in the green, with IT, media, metals, pharma, telecom, private banks, FMCG and consumer durables each advancing between 1% and 2%.

Key gainers on the Nifty 50 included Jio Financial Services, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, Hindalco Industries and Larsen & Toubro, each crossing the 2% rise threshold. Conversely, Mahindra & Mahindra, Power Grid Corporation, Ayesha Motors, Bajaj Auto, BHEL, ONGC and HDFC Life were the major laggards.
