Modified Udan Programme Targets Remote Areas with Modern Airstrips

Geographical challenges in several parts of India have often limited the feasibility of conventional airports. The revised Udan framework addresses this gap by proposing 200 advanced helipads in hard‑to‑reach zones, each estimated at ₹15 crore. These facilities are expected to improve access to health care, boost emergency response capabilities, and spur economic activities in isolated districts. Additionally, the plan allocates ₹2,577 crore for the sustainable operation and maintenance of 441 small airstrips, providing an annual budget of ₹3.06 crore per airport and ₹0.90 crore per helipad or water aerodrome.
