New Data Harmonisation Measures Boost Accuracy of GDP and CPI Figures
The ministry announced a suite of data‑harmonisation actions designed to bring greater consistency across government statistics. Central to this effort is the rollout of the National Metadata Structure 2.0 (NMDS 2.0) and the Statistical Quality Framework (SQF), which align national data with international classification standards.
These measures have already resulted in significant refinements to macro‑economic indicators. Revisions to the base year for gross domestic product, adjustments to the consumer price index and updates to the industrial production index reflect a more accurate picture of the economy. The ministry also monitors global statistical standards to ensure that India’s data ecosystem remains compatible with worldwide best practices.
