New Verification Fees Set for CNG, LNG and Hydrogen Dispensers

In a significant regulatory update, the Department of Consumer Affairs has revised verification charges and expanded the list of equipment that government-approved test centres can certify. Petrol and diesel dispensers will now attract a fee of ₹5,000 per nozzle, while CNG, LPG, LNG and hydrogen dispensers will be charged ₹10,000 per nozzle. The move follows amendments to the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013, which now include five additional dispenser categories. This expansion raises the total number of weight and measure categories eligible for verification at approved centres to 23. State governments have been empowered to notify further categories according to their specific requirements. The government expects the changes to increase the reach of verification services, lower costs for operators over time and support India’s push for cleaner transport fuels. Industry observers believe the updated framework will also attract more private investment into testing infrastructure, ensuring that fuel dispensers across the country meet statutory accuracy standards.
