OpenAI has rolled out a substantial update to its ChatGPT Search, aiming to improve response quality and depth, thereby providing a more competitive service. This new feature, launched on June 13, enhances the web search experience by delivering more intelligent and in-depth answers across a wide range of topics, including news, sports, and finance. ChatGPT Search, which is nearly a year old, is designed to summarize online content, providing source links for fact-checking purposes. The latest update promises to enhance query understanding, improve the handling of extended conversations, and make instructions easier to follow, resulting in a more efficient and useful search experience. The new ChatGPT Search provides smarter answers due to improved query understanding and richer context. It performs better in longer conversations, reduces response repetition, and more accurately follows user commands. Additionally, ChatGPT Search can now automatically conduct multi-step searches to address complex questions and allows users to search the web using uploaded images. Despite these advancements, OpenAI acknowledges that ChatGPT may still generate errors. Users are advised to verify information through provided links. Some users might encounter longer responses or unnecessary “thought process” answers to simple queries, with a fix currently in development.
