Google has launched its new Pixel 10 series, introducing a significant feature: satellite-based voice and video calls on WhatsApp. This capability was initially revealed on Google’s X account and later confirmed by WhatsApp. The feature is scheduled to become available to users starting August 28th.
This feature is designed to be useful in areas with poor or no network connectivity. Google shared a short video demonstrating a Pixel device receiving a WhatsApp call in satellite mode. This means that people in mountainous regions, forests, or remote areas will now be able to make voice and video calls on WhatsApp more easily.
This service will operate in conjunction with specific carriers. Users may incur extra charges in addition to their standard bills. To use satellite calling, users will need to be outdoors under open skies. The call experience may not be as fast or smooth as with a mobile network.
This Pixel 10 series feature is particularly beneficial for frequent travelers and those residing in areas with limited network access. Satellite calling on WhatsApp aims to improve connectivity.
In addition, Meta is testing a feature to help users verify the authenticity of messages. Soon, ‘Ask Meta AI’ will appear in WhatsApp messages, allowing users to gain more information about forwarded messages.
