Piyush Goyal Signals Assessment of New US Sanctions Targeting Russian Oil Buyers

India and the United States are maintaining regular contact as bilateral trade talks continue. Goyal indicated that his ministry will discuss the issue with U.S. trade representative Jameson Greer at the upcoming G20 trade ministers' meeting in Milwaukee later this month. The American bill also contains provisions to sanction Russia’s shadow fleet, senior officials, and banks that facilitate sanction evasion. Exceptions exist for countries whose natural gas imports from Russia fall below 15 percent and are actively reducing reliance.
