OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, known for ChatGPT, is reportedly preparing to rival Elon Musk’s Neuralink. Merge Labs, a new brain-to-computer interface company, is being developed by Altman. The startup is in its early stages but is valued at approximately $850 million (around 7,434 crore). Funding is expected primarily from OpenAI’s ventures branch, though no final decision has been made. Alex Blania, who leads Tools for Humanity, is also said to be involved in this project. This company is recognized for its eye-scanning device, which verifies whether a person is genuine. Merge Labs aims to enter a similar field as Elon Musk’s Neuralink. Neuralink, established in 2016, develops chips that can be implanted in the brain, enabling severely paralyzed individuals to control devices with their thoughts. Neuralink is conducting human trials and raised $600 million earlier this year at a $9 billion valuation. Both companies are working on technologies that could revolutionize how humans interact with machines.
