Scientists Confirm Safety of E20 Fuel After Lab and Field Tests

New Delhi – In response to questions raised in Parliament, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas clarified that the E20 fuel mixture was subjected to exhaustive scientific scrutiny before being cleared for public use. Independent laboratories measured combustion characteristics, while on‑track testing evaluated parameters such as driving performance, fuel efficiency, emission levels and component wear.

The collective data indicated that the ethanol blend does not impair engine operation. Both diesel and gasoline engines, when adapted to E20, showed comparable power output and no accelerated corrosion of metal parts. Moreover, emission measurements revealed a measurable decline in carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons, supporting India’s clean‑energy objectives.

These outcomes reinforce the government’s stance that the ethanol‑blending programme is a well‑grounded, evidence‑based initiative, built on years of collaborative research among academia, industry and regulatory agencies.
