Semicon 2.0 and Mobile Phone Scheme to Drive 3.6 Lakh Jobs, Boost India’s Chip Ecosystem

New Delhi, July 16 — Industry voices are optimistic about the recently sanctioned Semicon 2.0 and Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMSS). Together, they are expected to generate more than 360,000 jobs across the semiconductor and mobile‑phone sectors. Semicon 2.0 is projected to attract $40‑$50 billion in investments, potentially creating 200,000‑300,000 high‑skill roles. MPMSS could add another 60,000 direct jobs and push the domestic mobile‑phone market value to roughly ₹3.9 trillion, with exports climbing to about ₹1.5 trillion. The government has approved ₹1.27 lakh crore for Semicon 2.0 and ₹62,500 crore for MPMSS, underscoring a strategic push for greater value addition and a stronger position in the global electronics supply chain.
