The ministry’s data also refutes the viral claim that insects such as ants or bees can reach the fuel tank through E20. Tests conducted by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited confirmed that the fuel‑grade ethanol added to gasoline is completely sugar‑free and contains denaturants that repel insects. Moreover, the ethanol used in the blend is derived from surplus broken rice and sugarcane residues, not from water‑intensive crops. The government emphasised that corn, a low‑water‑requirement crop, is being promoted as the primary feedstock for future ethanol production.
