Telecom Sector Revenue Rises as Wireless ARPU Hits Rs 187 in Q2

The second quarter of 2026 saw India’s telecom industry post stronger financial results, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Gross revenue for the period was Rs 1.07 lakh crore, while adjusted gross revenue climbed to Rs 88,796 crore.

A key driver of this growth was the increase in average revenue per user (ARPU) for wireless services. Quarterly ARPU rose 1.19 percent to Rs 187.12, and on an annual basis the figure was up 3.11 percent.

Pre‑paid customers contributed an ARPU of Rs 200.72, whereas post‑paid customers generated Rs 114.26 per user.

Revenue per gigabyte of data fell 5.07 percent to Rs 7.13, reflecting pricing pressures despite a robust rise in data consumption.

The number of internet subscribers reached 1.114 billion, with wireless users accounting for 1.066 billion of that total. Broadband users numbered 1.087 billion, while narrow‑band users were 26.6 million.

Mobile data traffic surged 8.3 percent to 84,424 petabytes, and average monthly data usage per subscriber increased to 28.39 GB from 26.70 GB.

Overall telephone connections grew to 1.34 billion, a 1.31 percent quarterly rise, and tele‑density improved to 94.31 percent.

These figures underscore the continued expansion of India’s digital ecosystem, driven by strong demand for wireless connectivity and data services.
