Following reports of users being able to access the TikTok website, government sources have firmly stated that the ban on the popular video-sharing platform remains in effect. Despite some users reporting access to the website, they were unable to log in or view videos. Furthermore, the TikTok application was not available on app stores. In 2020, India banned 59 Chinese mobile applications, including TikTok, due to concerns regarding national security and data privacy, following the Galwan Valley clashes. The government cited activities deemed prejudicial to India’s sovereignty, integrity, defense, security, and public order. While recent developments have seen India and China taking steps to improve relations, including the resumption of border trade and discussions on resuming direct flights, the TikTok ban remains unchanged.
