Virtual JETCO Meeting Sets Stage for Expanded India‑Costa Rica Collaboration

New Delhi, July 8 — The inaugural virtual session of the India‑Costa Rica Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) laid the groundwork for a stronger economic partnership.

Co‑chaired by India’s Commerce Secretary and Costa Rica’s Director General of Foreign Trade, the meeting reviewed existing commercial and investment links and exchanged regulatory perspectives.

Officials expressed satisfaction that bilateral merchandise trade is expected to climb to approximately $391 million in the 2025‑26 financial year, continuing a positive trajectory.

Key topics included mutual sharing of standards, certification processes and compliance frameworks. Both sides examined cooperation possibilities in standard development, conformity assessment, food safety, pharmaceutical regulation and export certification to ease market access.

Under the memorandum of understanding, JETCO will function as the principal mechanism to assess economic relations, address shared concerns and explore new collaborative routes.
