AI-driven attacks double Africa's cyber loss to over $48 million

Economic damage from cybercrime across Africa has more than doubled since 2024, climbing from $19.2 million to $48.4 million, according to Interpol's assessment. The rise is linked to sophisticated AI tools that speed up every phase of an attack—from reconnaissance and phishing to money laundering and evading defenses. Mobile money platforms, social media and AI‑generated content are increasingly exploited by fraudsters, making online scams the most reported cyber offences in 2025.
