Apple is now planning to shift its iPhone production from dependence on China and shift towards India. According to reports, the company wants to prepare all the iPhone sold in America by 2026 in India. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s weekly ‘Poweron’ newsletter, this change will happen gradually and Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone model-which is likely to be launched in 2027-will still be built in China.
Gurman said, “Although the construction of the existing iPhone models in India has reached equal to China, but the 20th anniversary models will be extremely complex. They will require new parts and advanced production technology, which do not seem possible outside China by 2027.”

Opportive eye on iPhone fold and glass-centric model
According to reports, Apple can launch its first foldable iPhone and a glass-centric model in 2027. But due to these complex designs, Apple will still manufacture these models in China. Gurman says, “Apple has not created any big new design outside China for the first time, and this tradition can continue with the 20th anniversary iPhone.”
It is being told that these 20th anniversary iPhone will be very expensive. According to some reports, the price of foldable iPhone can be more than Rs 2 lakh.

India becomes Apple’s new production hub
Apple has increased its production in India rapidly due to the ongoing trade war between the US and China. Currently, the company is doing about 20% of its global iPhone production in India, with a value of about 22 billion in the year 2023. Now the goal is to make most of the iPhone sold in the US by 2026 in India, for which the production capacity will have to be almost doubled.
Significantly, the US has recently imposed a huge tariff of up to 145 percent on products imported from China, making it beneficial for companies to produce outside China.
Apple may be expanding iPhone production in India, but its most innovative and complex device will currently be made in China. In the coming years, India can become a big manufacturing base for Apple, but China’s role will remain for high-end models.
