A 19-year-old from Arizona, Renna O’Rourke, has tragically passed away after participating in the ‘dusting’ challenge, a dangerous trend on social media. The challenge involves inhaling household cleaners to achieve a high. Reports indicate that O’Rourke’s boyfriend, without the family’s knowledge, ordered an aerosol keyboard cleaner, which she then inhaled, leading to cardiac arrest. Despite being kept in the ICU for four days, doctors declared her brain dead. This incident underscores the severe health risks associated with ‘dusting,’ also known as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ which can lead to heart failure. Her family is now actively raising awareness about the fatal trend, urging parents to monitor their children’s activities and search their belongings. The family has also started a GoFundMe page to help with medical bills and therapy costs. This tragic event mirrors a similar case in the UK in March 2024, where a young boy died after inhaling toxic substances.
