A 19-year-old from Arizona, Renna O’Rourke, has died following a ‘dusting’ incident, a dangerous trend circulating on social media. The trend, also known as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ involves inhaling household cleaners for a temporary high. O’Rourke’s father reported that her boyfriend obtained an aerosol keyboard cleaner without their knowledge. After inhaling the substance, she suffered cardiac arrest and was later declared brain dead after spending four days in the ICU. This tragic event highlights the severe health risks associated with the ‘dusting’ challenge, which can lead to heart failure. Renna’s family is now raising awareness about this deadly trend, urging parents to monitor their children’s activities and surroundings to prevent similar tragedies. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover medical bills and therapy costs. This incident echoes a similar case in the UK where a young boy died in March 2024 after inhaling toxic substances.
