A 19-year-old from Arizona, Renna O’Rourke, has died after participating in the ‘dusting’ challenge, a dangerous trend circulating on social media. The trend, also known as ‘huffing’ or ‘chroming,’ involves inhaling household cleaners to achieve a high. O’Rourke’s father reported that her boyfriend acquired an aerosol keyboard cleaner without the family’s knowledge. After inhaling the cleaner, she suffered cardiac arrest and was subsequently declared brain dead after four days in the ICU. Her family is now raising awareness about the risks of this trend, urging parents to monitor their children’s activities and environments. A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover medical expenses and therapy costs. This incident mirrors a similar case in the UK where a young boy lost his life in March 2024 due to inhaling toxic substances.
