Iranian police reported that security forces neutralized three terrorists during a shootout in Saravan, a city in the Sistan and Baluchistan province, located in southeastern Iran. According to reports, the incident occurred early Sunday morning when terrorists ambushed Iranian police patrolling in Saravan County. This area borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and is known to be sensitive due to terrorist activities.
Following the attack, police retaliated, killing three attackers while the remaining assailants fled the scene. Security forces are currently searching for the escaped attackers. Authorities confirmed that one police officer died in the clash, and another was injured, requiring hospitalization for treatment.
The Sistan and Baluchistan province has long faced sporadic unrest related to armed groups, including terrorists and smuggling networks operating in the region.
