Leaders from four nations have publicly responded to the devastating flash flood that hit Nepal’s Bhote Koshi river basin on August 27. The disaster claimed more than 170 lives and left hundreds of travelers stranded, including 34 Australians, 24 Canadians, five New Zealanders and 19 Malaysians.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia reiterated that a dedicated consular team is on standby, urging Australians in the area to obey local directives and contact the emergency centre at 1300 555 135. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that Ottawa is tracking all Canadian citizens through the ROCA system and stands ready to deliver assistance.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said his government is in touch with Nepalese authorities to verify the status of its nationals and provided a 24‑hour helpline (+64 99 20 20 20). Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered the Kathmandu mission to allocate all necessary resources until every missing Malaysian is accounted for.
