Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah declared his support for the establishment of an interim government tasked with organizing new elections in Nepal. In this announcement, he endorsed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to lead the electoral government. Shah expressed his full support, acknowledging her understanding, wisdom, and unity. Simultaneously, through a social media post, Shah addressed the Gen Z and all Nepalese citizens, urging them not to panic and to remain patient as the country navigates an unprecedented situation, working towards a golden future. Shah further stated the country is now under the governance of an interim government, which will facilitate fresh elections. He appealed to those aspiring to lead Nepal to avoid rushing and wait for the elections. Shah emphasized that the nation needs their passion, thinking, and honesty permanently, not temporarily, and that elections are the proper venue for pursuing such leadership. He urged for the formation of an interim government and the immediate dissolution of Parliament to protect the historic revolution brought about by Gen Z.
Violent protests have persisted in Nepal for three days, resulting in 30 deaths and hundreds of injuries. These intensified protests, led by Gen Z, began on August 8, driven by demands to lift the ban on social media platforms and address government corruption. Following the youth-led demonstrations, protestors vandalized and set fire to the private residence of outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Balkot, Bhaktapur. He subsequently resigned and reportedly left the country.
