Baluch Student Organization accuses Pakistani forces of illegal disappearances

On the occasion of International Enforced Disappearance Day, the Baluch Students Organization (BSO) – Azad issued a stern accusation against Pakistani security forces, labeling their actions against Baluch civilians as illegal and systematic. The organization highlighted that enforced disappearance has become a hallmark of state‑sanctioned oppression in the region.

According to the Baluchistan Human Rights Council, the period from January 2016 to July 2026 saw 9,130 reported cases of forced disappearances. The council warned that this figure is a minimal estimate, as many incidents go unrecorded due to the tight grip of security operations in remote districts.

BSO reported that more than 800 individuals—including students, political activists, teachers, doctors, laborers and shop owners—have been abducted by the army and intelligence agencies. Victims span a wide age range, from eight‑year‑old children to sixty‑year‑old elders, with the tragic case of a 1½‑year‑old child from Mastung underscoring the ruthless nature of the practice.

The organization called on the international community, human‑rights NGOs and the United Nations to take swift action, demand accountability from Pakistani officials, and support measures that would end the practice of forced disappearances permanently.
