The Bangladesh Election Commission has removed the lotus election symbol from its list. This decision has intensified political activity in Bangladesh. Nahid Islam of the National Citizen Party (NCP) had his sights set on this symbol. General elections are scheduled for February 2026 in Bangladesh, following the coup that removed Sheikh Hasina from power.
These general elections will determine the formation of a new government in the neighboring country of India. The last general elections in Bangladesh, established in 1971, were held in 2021, in which Sheikh Hasina’s party secured a landslide victory.
