Bangladesh-India Talks Focus on Air Cargo, Tourism Cooperation

The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, and Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashedul Jaman Millat convened on September 16 to discuss a range of aviation‑related matters.

Both officials stressed the importance of expanding air cargo capacity to support trade growth. They also outlined steps to enhance passenger connectivity, reduce turnaround times, and adopt best practices in operational procedures.

Trivedi, appointed on June 25, 2026, previously served as a central minister and is well‑versed in West Bengal’s political landscape and Bengali culture. The Indian government has granted him a rank equivalent to a Cabinet Minister, highlighting the diplomatic significance of his role.

In his early days, Trivedi announced the reinstatement of the tourist visa scheme that had been paused for nearly two years. The service was fully operational again from June 28, with visa centres in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna handling applications.

Bangladeshi visitors are drawn to Indian attractions such as the Taj Mahal, Kolkata’s historic architecture, and the North‑Eastern hill stations. Indian tourists, in turn, explore Bangladesh’s Sundarbans mangroves, Srimangal’s tea plantations, and Buddhist heritage sites.

The meeting reaffirmed that tourism between the two nations is anchored in cultural interaction, shared history, and the growing segment of medical tourism.
