Bollywood’s Appeal Boosts Warm Relations Ahead of Modi’s SCO Summit

The enduring popularity of Bollywood in Kyrgyzstan continues to nurture warm bilateral ties as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to attend the 26th SCO summit in Bishkek.

Modi’s arrival on 31 August follows a diplomatic tour of Uzbekistan and comes at a time when Indian films, songs and traditional dress remain favorites among Kyrgyz youth.

Actor Almaz Alimzhanov emphasized that this cultural resonance makes India feel like a familiar neighbour, describing the Prime Minister’s visit as “a present for our people.”

Beyond cultural appreciation, the summit will allow Modi to address regional security, improve transport links and explore economic cooperation, while also taking part in the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games, a celebration of Central Asian heritage.
