BRICS Marks 20 Years; China’s Influence Highlighted at Delhi Summit

Beijing, 12 September – As the BRICS grouping celebrates its 20‑year milestone, China’s President Xi Jinping is slated to join the 18th summit in New Delhi on 12‑13 September. The move is being interpreted as a strong endorsement of continued cooperation among developing nations.

Since its inception, BRICS has expanded its membership and deepened its role as a platform for emerging markets. The forum now enjoys broader representation and growing clout in international affairs.

Sudhir Kulkarni, who founded the New South Asia Forum, points to China’s active role in strengthening the alliance. Initiatives such as bolstering the New Development Bank, pushing the “BRICS Plus” agenda, and collaborating on cutting‑edge industrial projects are cited as key drivers of the bloc’s adaptability.

Political analysts anticipate that Xi’s presence will reinforce intra‑BRICS cohesion, promote shared development goals, and elevate the Global South’s collective stance on the world stage.
