Leaders from the BRICS nations convened at the 17th BRICS Summit, hosted by Brazil, and issued a joint declaration firmly denouncing terrorism in all its forms. The declaration specifically condemned the April 22nd Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities. The leaders reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to combating terrorism, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing, and the provision of safe havens. The summit included representatives from Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, as well as new members Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Indonesia. The leaders emphasized the necessity of zero tolerance for terrorism and the rejection of double standards in counter-terrorism efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the summit, highlighted the Pahalgam attack as a stark reminder of the global threat of terrorism and stressed that condemning terrorism should be a matter of principle rather than convenience.
