Calls for Independent Probe into Balochistan Courts after Mahrang Balouch’s Allegations

Quetta, Sept 13 – Mahrang Balouch, a senior human‑rights activist and the chief convenor of the Balochistan Yakejhti Committee (BYC), released a detailed indictment against the Balochistan judiciary on Thursday.

According to Balouch, the provincial judiciary is acting as a collaborator of state institutions, undermining foundational legal principles. He claimed Chief Justice Kamran Mulakhai is personally reviewing every BYC‑related docket and that judges Muhammad Ali Mubeen, Qadir Shah Bukhari and several peers are delivering verdicts in line with governmental instructions.

Balouch singled out the prosecution of BYC figure Gulzada Balouch as a case of blatant judicial misconduct. He alleged that the presiding judge confessed to being under “direct pressure” and following orders on the sentencing, casting serious doubts on impartiality.

Despite a court‑staff strike on Sept 7 and the absence of the defence lawyer, the trial continued, with a witness examined without counsel. Balouch said this violates the core right to a fair hearing.

The BYC has boycotted twenty hearings from June 13 to Sept 10, describing them as “faceless trials.” A petition lodged in the Balochistan High Court was allegedly postponed repeatedly, and bail pleas have been consistently struck from the schedule, he added.

Balouch has appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan and international human‑rights mechanisms, demanding an immediate, transparent investigation into the alleged bias, the denial of defence rights and the systematic delay of justice.
