Carp Highlights Need for Indigenous AI Systems and Robust Regulations

Alex Carp warned that the future of AI will be shaped by how each country governs its own models and data. He asked rhetorical questions such as, “How will you control the weights? How will you decide which data feeds which model? How can you be sure the system remains yours?”

He stressed that policymakers must involve technical experts when drafting AI regulations, balancing security concerns with the need for competitive innovation. “Rules are essential, but they have to be written by people who truly understand the technology,” Carp said.

Carp also stressed the importance of a hybrid approach: leveraging open‑source models where appropriate while protecting proprietary, sensitive information through closed‑door solutions. This, he believes, will safeguard governmental confidentiality while still fostering a vibrant AI market.
