The shooting occurred at a college debate in Utah, where Kirk was addressing the issues of mass shootings and gun violence in the United States. The shooter reportedly fired the shot from the roof. Following the shooting, Kirk was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. It’s believed that only one shot was fired at Kirk, which struck his left side of the neck causing immediate bleeding.
The incident unfolded during a college debate where Kirk was giving a speech. He was discussing gun violence and mass shootings when he was asked how many mass shooting cases had occurred in the US in the last 10 years. As Kirk was about to respond, a shot rang out, and he collapsed. Chaos erupted, and people scattered to find safety. He was later taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.
According to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, the shot was fired from the roof. He also stated that only one shot was fired and called Kirk’s death a political assassination. An FBI official reported that a suspect was apprehended in connection with the murder but was later released after questioning.
Donald Trump expressed his sorrow over Kirk’s death on social media, writing that no one understood the hearts of American youth better than Kirk. He added that Kirk’s murder has heightened concerns regarding mass shootings in the nation.
