Cherry Group and MG Lead China’s Record Car Export Growth

The China Automobile Industry Association’s recent statistics reveal a remarkable upswing in the nation’s car export performance. Export numbers for the period January‑September 2024 climbed to 8.205 million, a 65.8 percent increase compared with the previous year, and projections suggest the total will exceed ten million units by year‑end.

Two manufacturers stand out. Cherry Group shipped 1.5512 million vehicles in the first three quarters, posting a 65.6 percent increase over the same timeframe in 2023. MG, part of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, recorded sales of over 280,000 cars in Europe, up 23 percent from the prior year.

The expansion is further fueled by the growing demand for new‑energy vehicles, which are becoming a cornerstone of China’s export portfolio. Europe, South America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East have emerged as the primary markets for these exports.
