China has expressed its appreciation for India’s swift and professional rescue efforts following a fire and explosion aboard the cargo ship MV Wan Hai 503 off the Kerala coast. The Chinese Embassy spokesperson, Yu Jing, took to social media to commend the Indian Navy and Mumbai Coast Guard for their prompt response. The incident occurred 44 nautical miles from Azhikkal, Kerala, and involved a crew of 22, including 14 Chinese nationals (6 from Taiwan). The vessel was en route from Colombo to Nhava Sheva when the explosion occurred below deck. While search operations continue for the missing crew members, and injured are recovering, Indian Coast Guard ships have been deployed for firefighting and rescue operations. The ship was carrying containerized cargo, and an ICG aircraft assessed the scene.
