China Energy Data: Renewable Capacity Growth Accelerates

Renewable energy continues to gain ground in China, according to the latest figures from the National Energy Administration. Wind and solar installed capacity together reached 201 crore kilowatts at the end of September.

Overall installed power capacity across the country reached 413 crore kilowatts, up 11.2 percent from the same point last year. The combined wind and solar share of that capacity highlights the shift underway in the energy mix.

Wind power capacity rose to 70 crore kilowatts, an increase of more than 20.4 percent over the previous year. Solar power capacity climbed to 131 crore kilowatts, marking a rise of over 16.5 percent.

In terms of output, wind and solar power generated 1,933.3 billion kilowatt-hours in the first three quarters of the year. This was an increase of more than 193.7 billion kilowatt-hours compared with the same period in the previous year.

Notably, wind and solar generation accounted for 64 percent of the country's total additional electricity volume. This reflects the rapid expansion of new energy sources and their increasingly important role in the energy sector.
