Southwest China is facing a growing humanitarian emergency after days of relentless rain triggered deadly floods in Chongqing and surrounding provinces. Yongchuan district bore the brunt of the storm, where nine fatalities and 11 missing persons have been confirmed so far. Rescue operations are ongoing as officials race to locate those still unaccounted for. In Hunan, seven people have died and 14 are missing following flash floods that swept through Shimen county. Local emergency services report that 23 townships suffered varying degrees of damage. Further west in Guizhou, last week’s torrential rains caused landslides that killed four and left five missing, with search teams still active. The central government has mobilized additional resources to support relief efforts in all three regions.
