China’s Philanthropy Hits Over 1.5 Trillion Yuan Annually Across Social Sectors

The 11th China Donation Day underscored a nationwide commitment to charitable values. While the Cheilong County landslide prompted a rapid influx of 660 million yuan in aid, the event also reflects the scale of China’s overall giving.

Data released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs shows that, under the 14th Five‑Year Plan, more than 20 billion yuan have been earmarked for emergency relief and reconstruction projects across the country.

In addition to disaster response, the Chinese charitable sector spends approximately 1.5 trillion yuan each year supporting seniors, children, people with disabilities, poverty‑relief programmes, education, healthcare and rural revitalisation initiatives.

These numbers illustrate how philanthropy has become a structural pillar of China’s social welfare system.
