China and United States Reach Consensus on Trade and AI Cooperation

The eighth round of trade negotiations between China and the United States, concluded in New York, saw both capitals affirming a pathway of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence. Among the outcomes were commitments to enforce existing trade‑consultation agreements, introduce reciprocal tariff reductions, and set up dedicated trade and investment councils.

A notable milestone was the inaugural artificial‑intelligence discussion, led by China’s Vice‑Premier He Lifeng and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Basant, under the bilateral economic‑trade mechanism. Both sides pledged to keep a tight line of communication for follow‑up actions and to defer the Kuala Lumpur joint arrangement until a later date.
