Chinese Envoy Highlights Need for Calm, Cooperation in South Sudan

During a review of the South Sudan situation, Sun Lei, acting China’s permanent representative at the UN, stressed that maintaining calm is a prerequisite for lasting peace. He called on all stakeholders to shun violence, respect cease‑fire agreements and collaborate with both the South Sudanese authorities and UN peacekeepers. China reiterated its readiness to assist in confidence‑building initiatives, promoting harmonious coexistence and collective development across ethnic lines.
