Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to begin a two-day visit to India on Monday, August 18th. The visit includes a crucial bilateral meeting with India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, aimed at stabilizing relations between the two countries amidst ongoing tensions. This visit is taking place before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned trip to China. The visit also comes at a time of evolving relations between India and the United States, including the imposition of increased import duties by the US on Indian products. Wang Yi will arrive in New Delhi on Monday afternoon and is expected to meet with Jaishankar, followed by discussions on Tuesday concerning the border dispute, trade, and the restoration of air services. A courtesy call on Prime Minister Modi is also planned, seen as significant before Modi’s attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in China.
