The celebrations were disrupted by the Khalistani group, prompting a response from the Indian diaspora, who countered with patriotic songs. The Australia Today reported on X that “Khalistani ‘goons’ reportedly created a ruckus, disrupting the premises and raising tensions.” The report also noted that Indians had gathered to celebrate peacefully, but the event was interrupted. Local authorities were monitoring the situation. Consul General Dr. Sushil Kumar led the flag hoisting ceremony, joined by Hon. Brad Batin, MP, Cr Pradeep Tiwari, Mayor of Marybyrong, and members of the Indian diaspora. The morning was filled with patriotic fervor, renditions of patriotic songs, and a commitment to strengthening the India–Australia bond.
