During his visit to Cyprus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted in a culturally significant manner by a member of the Nicosia Council. Michaela Kythreoti Mhlapa, at the historic Centre of Nicosia, touched PM Modi’s feet, a gesture of respect. The Prime Minister acknowledged her action and responded with a blessing, showing his appreciation for her understanding of Indian culture. In a separate event, PM Modi received the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest honor in Cyprus, presented by President Nikos Christodoulides. The award is named after Makarios III, the first president of Cyprus, and recognizes significant contributions to the nation. PM Modi expressed his gratitude, highlighting the honor’s symbolic importance for peace, security, and shared values between India and Cyprus. This visit marked the first by an Indian PM to Cyprus in over twenty years and included interactions with the Indian diaspora and business leaders.
