During a high‑level engagement in Dhaka, India’s High Commissioner Dinesh Tripathi and Bangladesh’s minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam reviewed the status of joint rail and maritime projects. Both delegations underscored that improved rail connectivity and efficient shipping lanes are central to a thriving South Asian trade ecosystem.

Specific proposals covered the upgrade of the Kolkata‑Dhaka railway line, the introduction of faster freight services, and the harmonisation of customs procedures for vessels navigating the Bay of Bengal. The dialogue also touched on the potential for a new bridge over the Padma River to link key transport corridors.

State minister Habibur Rashid contributed insights on the technical feasibility of these ventures, stressing the need for synchronized planning and financing.

The Indian mission’s social media release reiterated that stronger connectivity not only fuels economic growth but also deepens people‑to‑people contact rooted in a shared cultural heritage.

A separate courtesy meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin reinforced the bilateral resolve to pursue infrastructure that benefits both sovereign nations.
