Former US President Donald Trump is making a final push to secure the Nobel Peace Prize this year. He has initiated fresh efforts, aiming to strengthen his claim by ending the war in Gaza. On Monday, September 29th, President Trump is scheduled to hold a significant meeting concerning the Gaza ceasefire. A proposal has been prepared, and upon the agreement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it will be sent to Hamas.
Trump’s goal is to halt the fighting in Gaza by October 1st, as the Nobel committee in Sweden will announce the peace prize winner on October 10th.
Why is Donald Trump hopeful about Gaza?
Since October 2023, over 65,000 people have died in Gaza. European and Arab countries are blaming Israel for the conflict. Israel has the direct support of the United States. French President Emmanuel Macron recently made a significant statement outside the UN.
Macron stated that if Trump were to stop the war in Gaza, he would be awarded the Nobel Prize. Following this, the US presidential office intensified its efforts to establish peace in Gaza, including inviting the Israeli Prime Minister to the White House.
Conditions for Winning the Nobel Peace Prize
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to institutions or individuals who have played a significant role in promoting fraternity between nations, abolishing or reducing standing armies, or who have done the most or the best work for the establishment and promotion of peace conferences.
Donald Trump claims that he stopped seven wars within seven months of becoming president. However, he has not been able to stop the Russia-Ukraine war, which he mentioned stopping before the elections.
Countries like Cambodia and Pakistan have nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. During a UN speech, Trump also expressed his desire for the Nobel. Trump said that he is doing the work of the UN.
