The family of 28-year-old Harjinder Singh, an Indian-origin truck driver, is appealing for a reduced sentence following a fatal highway crash in Florida. The incident, which occurred on August 12 on the Florida Turnpike, resulted in the deaths of three people. Singh, who hails from Rataul village in Punjab, India, faces three charges of vehicular homicide. The crash involved Singh’s tractor-trailer and a minivan, with investigators stating that Singh made an illegal U-turn before the collision. In response to the potential lengthy prison sentence, both Singh’s family and his village are seeking leniency, emphasizing his young age and attributing the event to unfortunate circumstances. After the accident, Singh was apprehended in California and brought back to Florida. His family expressed their sorrow for the victims and their shock at the events. An online petition has been started to generate support for Singh, though it has also drawn criticism, with some questioning the basis for the leniency plea, given the severity of the crime.
