Foreign Ministry Calls for Immediate Peace in Red Sea Amid Saudi Threats

India’s Foreign Ministry issued a stark warning on Friday, stating that the escalating tension in the Red Sea and the attempted strike on Mecca represent unacceptable risks to regional stability. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal urged the international community to act swiftly to restore calm.

He highlighted that attacks on Saudi Arabia’s sovereign territory, its citizens, and economic assets not only jeopardise local security but also threaten the free navigation of vessels through the Bab al‑Mandeb strait, a vital conduit for global commerce.

The ministry condemned the drone incident near Mecca, describing it as a serious breach of the city’s sanctity and a potential catalyst for broader conflict. India reaffirmed its expectation that peace will return to the region promptly.

These comments follow the Saudi Royal Air Defense’s successful interception of a hostile drone launched by Houthi rebels, preventing it from entering Mecca’s airspace. Earlier statements from New Delhi also expressed concern over recent Houthi‑Saudi confrontations and their implications for energy supplies worldwide.
