Former National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan has accused President Donald Trump of jeopardizing India-US relations to advance his family’s business deals in Pakistan. Pakistan not only nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize but also included his family and close associates in the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC).
World Liberty Financial signed an agreement with the Pakistan Crypto Council shortly after the April attack in Pehelgam to promote investment and innovation in the Pakistan crypto industry. DT Marks DEFI LLC, affiliated with the Trump family, holds a 60% stake in World Liberty’s parent company. It also holds a 75% stake in crypto earnings. Trump works as the ‘Chief Crypto Advocate’ for the company. His sons, Eric and Donald Jr., work as ‘Web 3 Ambassadors,’ and Barron Trump holds the position of ‘DEFI Visionary.’
Sullivan and other experts believe that Trump’s inclination towards Pakistan stems from the involvement of the Trump family in the Pakistani industry. After years of diplomatic isolation of Pakistan, a thaw has been observed in US-Pakistan relations. Donald Trump welcomed Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, to the White House and discussed trade, economic development, and cryptocurrencies.
Subsequently, in July, the Trump administration announced a trade agreement with Pakistan. The US stated it would help Pakistan develop vast oil reserves. Following this, a 25% tariff was imposed on Indian goods, later increased to 50%. Pakistan is slated to receive its first shipment of crude oil from the US later this year. Under the agreement, Energyco, Pakistan’s largest refinery, contracted with Vitol for the import of a million barrels of American crude oil.
Sullivan described Trump’s decision as a major strategic loss for US interests. He stated that strong US-India relations serve US interests. The US must stand by its words. It is essential that friends trust the US. The current situation with India is having a significant direct impact, deeply affecting all of the US’s relationships and partnerships worldwide.
